Medical IT and e-health provider Pro Medicus, of Australia, has acquired digital imaging services company Visage Imaging, of Carlsbad, Calif.

“Visage is a fantastic opportunity for us, given its product set is extremely complementary to ours,” said David Chambers, Pro Medicus chief executive officer. “In addition to having a Web-based PACS offering, which our own radiology information system links into, Visage is a market leader in advanced visualization, which allows CT and MR images to be reconstructed in 3D and 4D. This is the next wave in medical digital imaging technology.”

Chambers also said Pro Medicus is pleased with Visage’s offerings in thin-client distribution technology, allowing 3D images to be accessed on virtually any PC without the requirement for large amounts of computer and network memory.

The purchase, which will not involve any capital raising, will be funded from the Pro Medicus’ cash reserves, as will any operational costs during the integration period.

The acquisition is anticipated to become earnings per share accretive in the 2010 financial year.
