The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Foundation and Elekta, a developer of treatment planning systems for radiation therapy and radiosurgery, have awarded $20,000 in scholarships to radiation therapy students.

Funded by Elekta, four scholarships of $5,000 each were awarded to entry-level students enrolled in an accredited radiation therapy program. The company has donated $213,000 in scholarship funds since 2006.

“Elekta is pleased to partner with the ASRT Foundation to provide scholarships for students who require some financial assistance to complete their radiation therapist studies in a timely manner,” said Jay Hoey, executive vice president, Elekta North America. “We are proud to work together to achieve our goals to improve, prolong, and even save patient lives from cancer and brain disorders.”

Students were selected on the basis of evidence of commitment, leadership, achievement, and financial need. This year’s winners include:

  • Laura Jolovic of Harrisburg, Michigan, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Michigan – Flint
  • Kelli Kida of Tampa, Florida, enrolled in an associate degree program at Hillsborough Community College
