Previously, physicians had to use contrast agents or invasive methods to view low-velocity micro-vascular blood flow, making the new system faster and safer for patients. The SMI tool can also be used to see small vessels in and around areas such as tumors and lymph nodes.
“Since our team shifted to using SMI, we are experiencing image quality that is night and day from other technologies,” said Pat Washko, technical director, Rex Hospital, UNC Healthcare Vascular Center. “Rex Healthcare is now able to perform more comprehensive exams with the two different color modes, especially for identifying incidental findings to differentiate between solid and cystic masses. It is the right technology for our expanding vascular capabilities.”
