SuperSonic Imagine has received recognition for its Aixplorer ultrasound system from Premier Inc, a healthcare improvement company comprised of 3,000 United States hospitals and 110,000 other providers. The company has been selected as a 2014 Innovator, while its Aixplorer system has been designated as a Breakthrough Technology. SuperSonic was recognized at Premier’s conference in San Antonio, Tex, on June 10 and will display its new technology at an exhibition there June 11 – 12.
Aixplorer’s system uses ShearWave Elastography technology to visualize and quantify tissue stiffness (a possible indicator of cancer) in the liver, breast, thyroid, prostate, and other organs. The system was recognized for its novel ability to stage liver fibrosis non-invasively, reduce the need for breast and liver biopsies, provide a non-invasive treatment for patients receiving hepatitis C virus (HCV) drugs, and contribute to reduced medical costs and patient satisfaction.
“We are very honored to receive this kind of validation from an important organization like Premier,” said SuperSonic Imagine director of North America Alex Esposito. “It means a great deal to our team, which has been working very hard to create breakthrough technologies that significantly improve the capabilities of diagnostic ultrasound and have a major transformative impact on patient care and healthcare in general.”
