Toshiba America Medical Systems has debuted a new PET/CT system to address the needs of oncology departments, pending 510(k) clearance. The Celesteion is designed for radiation and oncology imaging applications, including tumor detection, treatment evaluation, and CT simulation.

“By listening to our customers and understanding their business, we know there is a need for a PET/CT system that puts patients first, and the Celesteion is that solution,” said Satrajit Misra, senior director of the CT business unit at Toshiba. “Accuracy and efficiency are crucial under healthcare reform, and Celesteion is capable of producing high quality images while improving workflow for providers.”

The system includes several features designed with patients in mind, including a large bore of 90 cm for CT and 88 cm for PET for patient comfort. To facilitate rapid exams, the Celesteion offers 450 ps time-of-flight resolution for PET and a 0.5 second rotation for CT, with 0.5 mm detectors producing 32 slices. The system also includes Toshiba’s AIDR 3D dose reduction technology and is compliant with MITA’s XR-29 Smart Dose standard. The system also offers a 70-cm CT and PET field of view and an extended field of view of 85 cm for CT.
