4DM-SPECT Functionality from ProSolv

ProSolv CardioVascular, Indianapolis, a FUJIFILM company, has further enhanced its CardioVascular Image and Information Systems (CVIIS) product line by integrating in Corridor4DM 4DM-SPECT capabilities. Corridor4DM gives nuclear cardiology physicians and technologists access to 4DM review, analysis, and quantification tools from any ProSolv workstation for reporting and image management. Corridor4DM is part of a vendor- and hardware-neutral software-only solution, offering an integrated, user-friendly, and intuitive environment within which the user can efficiently process and review all cardiac emission CT perfusion studies. The integration also provides access to all reporting information, expediting the process from diagnosis through billing. Other features include side-by-side image comparison, the ability to view up to four studies at one time regardless of modality, and quality assurance displays during processing and image interpretations.

Pediatric DXA Application from GE Healthcare

Fresh from GE Healthcare Lunar, Waukesha, Wis, is a unique software application designed to help physicians measure bone mineral density in children. GE Lunar’s new enCORE software for its dual-energy x-ray absorbtiometry (DXA) systems allows physicians to quantify a child’s bone density, fat, and lean tissue mass composition, factoring in the child’s age, height, and other variables. This enables the physician to separate the child’s growth from other changes to the size and density of its skeleton. Lunar DXA software also gives physicians dedicated reporting capabilities for body-composition measurements and high-percentage color fat mapping. Derivative values calculated with the software include bone-mineral content, area, soft-tissue mass, regional soft-tissue mass, total soft-tissue mass, fat-free mass, regional/total soft-tissue mass ration, body mass index, and more.

Image-Management Software for Smaller Facilities from Numa

Numa Inc, Amherst, NH, has launched a version of its popular NumaStore image-management software optimized for smaller nuclear medicine departments, freestanding clinics, and specialty practices that use nuclear medicine images, such as nuclear cardiology. NumaStore Lite offers the same image management for nuclear cardiology, PET, and multimodality imaging, in a more affordable package. Like its parent product, it features secure and reliable storage with redundant image backup, and it is fully DICOM compatible. It boasts easy retrieval of original data back to the workstation for reprocessing or remote viewing; and it supports raw, reconstructed, and screen-capture data. High-end tape-storage devices are included on all systems, providing a means for sites to ensure disaster-recovery compliance; in the event of a disaster, data can be quickly recovered and the system restored to operation with minimal downtime. The package can also be installed with a special version of the company’s NumaRead software to help users transfer data for conversion to storage.

Monte Carlo Dose-Calculation Tool from Accuray

The latest algorithm for dose calculation from Accuray Inc, Sunnyvale, Calif, is now commercially available. The Monte Carlo Dose Calculation algorithm, as its name suggests, utilizes Monte Carlo methods, long considered the gold standard of probabilistic statistics, to take the probability and potential interactions for each individual photon into account when it calculates the dose being delivered by a single photon. The algorithm then considers the probabilities for each of millions of photons to generate a dose calculation for the target and surrounding structures. This methodology is ideal for use in treating lung tumors because it takes into account varying tissue densities. It will be available for purchase as a software upgrade for customers with the MultiPlan 2.0 Treatment Planning System, and it will be available to new customers with the purchase of a MultiPlan system.

New Dyes for In Vivo Imaging from Carestream

New from Carestream Molecular Imaging, a division of Carestream Health Inc, Rochester, NY, is a line of large Stokes shift dyes designed for fluorescent in vivo imaging applications. The reactive dyes enable researchers and scientists to maximize the fluorescent signal while minimizing auto-fluorescence issues during in vivo imaging. “Stokes shift” refers to the separation of absorption and emission maxima; the large Stokes shift of these new dyes helps researchers eliminate much of the background that typically obstructs the fluorescent signal while allowing researchers to excite and emit the dyes at their maxima, resulting in higher signal-to-noise ratios. In an organism, the dyes illuminate a region of interest when excited by the appropriate wavelength of fluorescent light. They are optimized for use with Carestream systems, but compatible with other commercially available digital imaging systems.

Customizable Compact Equipment Cart from Anthro

New to the market from Anthro Corp, Tualatin, Ore, is the Zido compact cart, which is fully customizable for use with a medical equipment cart, a PACS OR cart, or an EMR cart. Zido is on 4-inch casters, giving it the mobility to move from room to room and over elevator thresholds. The cart is available in various widths and heights, enabling flexibility in smaller spaces. More than 16 accessories can be added to customize the cart, including a keyboard caddy; single- or dual-monitor mounts for imaging, lab records, or use as an EMR cart or computer on wheels; a glove box holder, probe holders, metal bins, or oxygen tank holder; and extra shelves and bins of all sizes for additional modular storage. The frame is constructed from cast metal, and shelves have a Kydex chemical-resistant membrane surface.
