Summa Health System has selected a suite of digital radiography (DR) technologies from Agfa HealthCare as part of a broader collaboration to improve equipment performance and image quality throughout Summa’s health network. The deal includes Agfa’s DX-D Retrofit and DX-D 100 mobile DR systems, DX-M multi-plate CR, and CR 30-X single plate table top CR, as well as an upgrade of MUSICA image processing software purchased through the Agfa digital radiography upgrade program.

Based in Ohio, the Summa Health System covers a network of hospitals, community health centers, a health plan, a physician-hospital organization, a multi-specialty physician organization, and several foundations. Summa chose the systems as a result of consultation with Agfa to create a strategic upgrade program for Summa’s DR systems. Agfa involved DR and IT specialists to ensure the proposal met the health network’s clinical, technological, and budgetary needs.

“This initiative allows us to continue using existing equipment, but with key add-ons that provide a seamless transition to the digital format,” said Jeanette Doria, system director of imaging services for Summa Health System. “This upgrade is expected to increase overall productivity, workflow, image quality, as well as improve patient satisfaction.”

The technology is designed to function as stand-alone installations or as part of an interconnected system upgrade. The vendor-neutral DX-D Retrofit enables hospitals to migrate their existing CR technology to DR for exchange within the EHR, while the DX-D 100 mobile DR system includes onboard dose management tools for image capture at the point of care. The DX-M CR system for general radiography and mammography offers a small footprint and the ability to use standard phosphor plates and dose efficient, cesium-based needle-phosphor detectors. The CR 30-X is a desktop CR system providing image quality comparable to full-size models. Integrated with all Agfa DR solutions,  MUSICA image processing software provides adaptive, automatic technology that eliminates the need for time consuming window and leveling or post processing.

“Summa Health System’s adoption of our tailored digital radiography portfolio is a testament to Agfa HealthCare’s expertise in providing imaging solutions that align with each customer’s clinical and technological needs,” said George Curley, senior marketing manager for Agfa HealthCare North America.
