Toshiba America Medical Systems has earned approval to operate (ATO) from the United States Air Force for its Vantage Titan 1.5T and 3T MR systems, making it the only manufacturer with MR systems certified to operate on the Air Force network. The company previously earned Air Force ATO for its CT systems.

In order to achieve ATO status, Toshiba updated its systems to meet the Air Force and Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Platform Information Technology (PIT) security guidelines to protect patient health information (PHI) and guard against malware, viruses and malicious attacks. Those changes included upgrading to Microsoft Windows 7 and implementing application whitelisting software to anticipate and avoid malware, viruses, and other attacks.

“Toshiba understands its customers’ business and makes data security one of its highest priorities,” said Beverly Plost, director, MR Business Unit, Toshiba. “This approval is proof that when a customer partners with Toshiba, they are getting the same protection and security expected by our nation’s armed forces.”
