A new educational series on Image-guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) is now available through the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). The 8-module series introduces radiation therapists, medical dosimetrists, and students to the basic principles of IGRT and a variety of treatment methods.

The courses address some of the benefits and drawbacks of the different methods, along with early uses, quality assurance, and treatment implications of each. Therapies to be covered include:

  • Computed tomography
  • Ultrasonography
  • Portal imaging
  • Internal and external fiducials and electromagnetic transponders
  • Surface tracking
  • Intrafraction monitoring
  • Respiratory gating

Participants who successfully complete all the courses can earn either 17 Category A+ or 18 MDCB continuing education credits. Managers and teachers who wish to use the course for educational purposes can also obtain a non-CE institutional version that includes quizzes, tests, an image library, and an unrestricted use license.
