CMS Addresses Data Practices with New Office, New Chief Data Officer

Hospitals across the nation are focused on improving data collection and management, but so, too, are the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The creation of the Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA) is the most recent evidence of CMS’ commitment to improving data collection and dissemination. Niall Brennan, the agency’s first Chief Data Officer (CDO), will be leading the charge.

It’s clear how much data transparency will help the country improve outcomes, control costs, and aid consumer decision making,” said CMS principal deputy administrator, Andy Slavitt. “This appointment signals to the industry that there is no turning back from the healthcare data agenda.
