From Breast Cancer Screening to COVID-19 Testing

PinkDrive, a nongovernment organization that typically provides gender-related cancer screening services in South Africa, is now offering its mobile vans and medical staff to bring COVID-19 testing to pandemic “hot spots” in that country.

“We are now entering a new phase in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 10,000 field workers will be visiting homes in villages, towns, and cities to screen residents for COVID-19 symptoms,” says South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa. Government will in the coming days roll out a large-scale screening, testing, tracing, and a medical management program, to manage the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Health Minister Zweli Mkhize explained the decision to intensify the testing of possible COVID-19 patients was aimed at drastically reducing local transmissions of the virus.
