The Vrije Universiteit in Brussels has signed a 5-year contract with Sectra for use of its breast imaging PACS. The system, which manages patient images and medical history, will enable improved care to the 14,000 women who receive mammograms through the Belgian breast screening program, the university said.

“Sectra was the only vendor who had a proven desktop integration with the national screening IT system for handling patient information, which provides a smooth and efficient mammography workflow,” said Filip Verhelle, system manager at the university hospital.

The web-based solution provides integrated CAD and reporting tools along with a single-system reading environment for mammographers. The system also displays all digital breast images, regardless of modality vendor, with the same size, orientation, and alignment to facilitate current and prior image comparison.
