Texas Gulf Coast Medical Group, a multi-specialty group based in Webster, Tex, has installed Viztek’s PACS solution, helping the practice improve efficiency and speed report delivery to physicians by up to 24 hours. The facility sees 400 to 500 patients per day and reads approximately 13,000 studies per year.

Implementation of the Viztek PACS has significantly reduced turnaround times. Staff at Texas Gulf Coast were previously printing and scanning x-ray reports back into the EMR and employing a third party transcription service. With the PACS, reports can flow directly into the EMR, and radiologists can make use of the system’s dictation service.

“Advanced medical technologies that identify and remove unnecessary manual steps, such as printing and scanning reports, enable staff to direct more time and resources towards delivering high-quality care,” said David LaGatella, IT manager for Texas Gulf Coast. “The transcription and reporting capabilities provided by the Viztek PACS have delivered relief to overall staff workload and invigorated morale, motivation, and best of all, efficiency. The physician satisfaction that comes as a result of our heightened pace of efficiency and shortened turnaround times can also lead to an increase in referrals directed to our facility.”

The system also offers a number of customizations which Texas Gulf Coast expects to use in the months ahead, such as using the PACS-to-EMR interface to send reports directly to patients for display on their systems.
