Mindray, a medical devices manufacturer, and Zonare, an ultrasound developer and subsidiary of Mindray, have finalized a contract with Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis to purchase 17 new ultrasound systems. The deal includes 11 Mindray portable and six Zonare ZS3 units.

HCMC is a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center with a nationally recognized medical education center. Its emergency department processes more than 100,000 patient visits per year.

“Because of our high volume and demand for rapid results, we rely on imaging solutions that provide outstanding diagnostic quality and user-friendly interfaces,” said Andrew Laudenbach, MD, emergency physician at HCMC. “Having state-of-the-art ultrasound technology immediately accessible in our emergency department is a standard for providing excellence in patient care.”

The Mindray portable platform includes tissue harmonic imaging technologies to improve image quality for difficult patients. The iZoom feature lets physicians view structures more clearly, while iTouch provides single button image optimization. Other key features include Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI), cine, wireless data transfer, and real-time 3D. The ZS3 relies on Zonare’s patented “zone” technology to improve data extraction and speed acoustic acquisition time for improved image quality.

“We are pleased the synergy between Mindray and Zonare could offer a comprehensive solution for HCMC,” said Glen Mclaughlin, PhD, president of Zonare. “These are the type of results we had anticipated when the two companies joined together. We are honored to help support HCMC’s diagnostic goals for their patients.”
