Summary: Advanced Imaging of Montana has installed the first Somatom Pro.Pulse dual-source CT scanner in the U.S., which uses AI for tailored protocols and provides cardiac imaging while reducing space and power needs.
Key Takeaways
- Advanced Imaging of Montana has installed the first Somatom Pro.Pulse dual-source CT scanner in the U.S., which uses AI for tailored scan protocols.
- The scanner’s air-cooled gantry requires 31% less space and consumes 20% less power than traditional dual-source CT systems.
- The installation addresses the need for cardiac imaging and CT-guided procedures at a similar cost to single-source CT scanners.

Advanced Imaging of Montana is the first U.S. facility to install the Somatom Pro.Pulse, a dual-source CT scanner from Siemens Healthineers. The scanner features two X-ray tubes and detectors, along with embedded artificial intelligence, to enhance workflow efficiency. Dual-source CT offers high temporal resolution and fast scan speeds, which are crucial for cardiac scans to reduce imaging artifacts from breathing or heart movement.
Tailoring Protocols Using Patient Data
The Somatom Pro.Pulse’s AI interface, myExam Companion, uses patient data, such as heart rate and breath-hold capability, to create tailored scan protocols. The optional FAST 3D camera automatically positions patients accurately. The scanner’s air-cooled gantry requires 31% less installation space and uses 20% less power than traditional water-cooled dual-source CT scanners.
Thanks to the Somatom Pro.Pulse, Advanced Imaging is able to provide our adult and pediatric patients with the dual-source CT technology that otherwise would have been beyond our means,” says Jenny McGuinn, clinical manager of Advanced Imaging of Montana in Missoula. “The scanner is enabling us to meet an increasing demand for cardiac CT studies and CT-guided interventional procedures, and its ease of use and smoothness of workflow benefits our staff.”
Addressing Cardiac Imaging Demand
Matthew Dedman, vice president of CT at Siemens Healthineers North America, adds: “With this installation of the nation’s first Somatom Pro.Pulse, Advanced Imaging of Montana is now able to address the increasing demand for advanced cardiac imaging to better serve their patients—at the same total cost of ownership as a typical single-source CT scanner.”
