Mercy Hospital St. Louis in St. Louis, Mo, has selected Viztek’s Ultra U-Arm DR systems for installation at one of the hospital’s Spine Centers and four of its outpatient facilities. The system includes a pediatric imaging package to advice clinicians on how to reduce dose during pediatric exams and enable facilities to align with the recommendations of the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Image Gently campaign.

“Mercy Hospital and Mercy Children’s Hospital strive to ‘care for people, not illnesses’ and this is exactly what we are doing with this technology,” said Kevin Huskey, director of outpatient imaging services. “At our outpatient facilities our goal is to provide our patients with low-dose, high-quality imaging in a comfortable environment.”

In addition, the system features a cesium oxide detector to preserve image quality at lower doses, as well as a flexible U-arm design that facilitates easy, rapid positioning of patients, particularly those who are older and less mobile. Image processing also occurs more rapidly for reduced wait times.

“With ongoing developments in hardware and software technology, we will continue to offer aid in the effort to reduce radiation dose in pediatric as well as adult imaging,” said Bruce Ashby, general manager, Viztek. “While we are currently installed in four of the outpatient imaging facilities and the Spine Center at Mercy, we hope to work with the hospital as they move all of the facilities to the most advanced digital DR technology, avoiding time consuming demands of CR use.”
