Radiologists at Complete Radiology Reading Service PLLC (CRRS) are lending a helping hand to physicians in Haiti right from their Westbury, New York, offices.

With the help of Raleigh, NC-based Viztek, CRRS has been able to securely tap into the imaging  database at St. Damien’s Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince, which is also one of the imaging  provider’s clients. Viztek’s web-based Opal-RAD PACS software facilitates encrypted, fast, compressed transmission of images allowing CRRS radiologists and their colleagues  at Jericho Specialty Imaging, an affiliate that specializes in pediatric neuroimaging, to make timely interpretations of images.

Because St. Damien’s experienced only minor damage during last month’s earthquake, it has been overwhelmed with patients—many of them with orthopedic injuries—causing a bottleneck in its imaging  department. CRRS CEO Allen Rothpearl, MD, and six other of the practice’s radiologists have volunteered their time to read St. Damien’s images.
