Nuance Communications Inc., of Burlington, Mass., today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Vocada Inc., a Dallas-based provider of critical test result management solutions.

According to Nuance, the transaction allows the speech and medical imaging provider to broaden the capabilities of its Dictaphone Healthcare solutions, as well as extend the company’s domain expertise within diagnostic specialties, including radiology, lab, pathology and cardiology.

With Vocada’s Veriphy solution, delivered through a software-as-a-service model, Nuance said it is looking to accelerate revenue and help health organizations identify, document and communicate critical test results, as mandated by industry regulations. A natural extension to Dictaphone Healthcare’s PowerScribe, Vocada’s technology aids in avoiding risks associated with delays in communicating critical patient findings.

Nuance officials said a growing list of more than 1,000 Dictaphone radiology customers can benefit from a closed-loop, speech-enabled clinical documentation solution that delivers CTRM capability.

Earlier this month, Nuance completed its acquisition of New York-based medical software company Commissure. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
