Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based Calgary Scientific Inc. announced that Barry Allen has been appointed CEO and president. The company also announced its corporate re-branding as PureWeb Inc. to reflect the company’s cloud-based product lineup and global reach beyond healthcare.
As CEO, in addition to executive leadership, Allen’s primary task is the commercialization of software products including: PureWeb Engine, PureWeb Reality, PureWeb Spaces and ResolutionMD. The PureWeb Engine is a platform technology allowing the company to expand beyond healthcare into e-commerce, industrial training and simulators, CAD, and gaming.

Allen is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of executive management and board experience. His area of expertise covers successfully building companies in the areas of digital media, medtech, and life sciences in both public and private companies. Active on public and private boards, and in the startup community, Allen was founder and chair of the BC Excels Program, entrepreneur in residence at Ventures West, lead mentor with the BC Innovation Council, and associate with Creative Destruction Labs in Vancouver and Calgary.
Most recently, Allen served as chairman at Zolo Ventures, a company he founded in 2012. He holds a BA in economics from Queens University.
