The Cios Alpha mobile C-arm system from Siemens has received FDA clearance, the company has announced. With 25 kW power output and a field of view (FoV) up to 25% larger than conventional C-arms, the Cios Alpha is designed to improve operational workflow.

“Siemens has engineered the Cios Alpha to deliver the highest-quality images at the lowest possible dose during surgery as well as perform seamlessly during even prolonged operations. This new C-arm system is ideal for a wide range of surgical procedures, including vascular, orthopedic, and urological,” said Laurie Fisher, vice president of X-ray products for Siemens Healthcare.

The system offers a 30 x 30 cm detector to provide high-resolution, high-contrast images suited for minimally invasive surgeries. The 25 kW output accommodates overweight patients who require additional power to attain sufficient imaging quality. The compact design also saves space while enabling improved patient access for physicians and medical personnel, and a cooling system prevents overheating during extended procedures.

Unlike traditional C-arms that provide a round FoV when surgeons rotate the image, the Cios Alpha has newly designed radiographic collimators rotate with the image, shielding the patient and surgeon from radiation and ensuring the widest possible FoV. The system can be operated from three identical touch screens on the C-arm, mobile workstation, and tableside. For more information, visit Siemens Healthcare.
