xrware_virtual-grid-615XRWARE, a developer of X-ray systems software, has released XWARE Virtual Grid, a new image processing software system that improves image quality for exams that are completed without a grid.

“XRWARE Virtual Grid results in higher image contrast and resolution for exams that need it most,” said Jean Pierre Bruandet, cofounder of XRWARE. “The new physics-based processing is designed for exams such as routine portable chest and abdomen exams that traditionally require high penetration. It identifies and considerably reduces scatter effect to generate higher-quality images for exams where a grid is not used.”

While mobile imaging typically requires use of a grid to reduce scatter radiation and prevent blurring, imaging conducted in point-of-care environments such as the emergency room or patient’s bedside may not be completed with the appropriate grid, or any grid. Virtual Grid software mimics the effect of grid use to improve image quality and eliminate artifacts caused by misalignment of the tube.

The software also offers better visibility and contrast for small and weak structures as well as depiction of overlapping structure, simultaneous viewing of bone and soft tissue, reduced window width and window leveling, and improved motion unsharpness reduction.
