Lesion Management Solutions for Liver and Lung from MEDIAN

Lesion Management Solutions are a comprehensive portfolio of applications, providing automatic tools to support image visualization, lesion detection and quantification, temporal evolution assessment, and automatic reporting in lung and liver CT scans. The applications are available from stand-alone workstations, PACS workstations, or any appropriate PC on the network in multiuser environments. LMS-Lung can segment pulmonary lesions and automatically obtain key characteristics, including volume or longest axial diameter; similarly, LMS-Liver can segment hepatic lesions and automatically obtain similar measurements.

New from Fujifilm Medical Systems USA Inc, Stamford, Conn, is the XG2000, a digital x-ray system designed to meet the needs of facilities requiring a two-cassette CR reader. The XG2000 is also the only CR system on the market that can be field-upgraded to four cassette slots in high-volume situations. Other advantages of the XG2000 include the continuous uptime ensured by two independent insertion slots; minimal contact cassette design, which prevents foreign objects and dust from creating image artifacts and compromising durability; an internal brush that automatically cleans the optics, extending imaging plate life and maintaining image quality; and a processing speed of 40 images per hour. The XG2000 also offers Fast Scan mode, which increases throughput by more than 18% and begins image preview just 11 seconds after scanning.

Smith & Nephew Endoscopy Inc, Andover, Mass, recently announced the launch of the 560 Series 3-CCD High Definition (HD) Camera System, a surgical camera system capable of capturing and displaying broadcast-quality HD images in arthroscopic and other minimally invasive surgeries. The 560 Series maintains high-definition resolution through the entire image chain, from the video arthroscope or laparoscope through the camera head and control unit to the monitor. The 560 Series is designed to interface with the company?s CONDOR Control System, which enables medical staff to manage the operative environment from one control panel, and the 660HD Image Management System for Digital Operating Rooms, which allows facilities to capture and store surgical images for archival with the patient?s medical history.

Next-Generation Capsule Endoscope from Given Imaging

On June 14, Given Imaging Ltd, Yoqneam, Israel, announced FDA clearance of its next-generation PillCam ESO 2 video capsule for imaging the esophagus. The capsule will be marketed in the United States by InScope, a division of Ethicon Endo-Surgery. PillCam ESO 2?s features include improved image quality; a 21% increase in the angle of view over PillCam ESO, giving physicians a broad increase in mucosal tissue coverage; Automatic Light Control (ALC), providing optimal illumination for each image; an increased capture rate of 18 frames per second, capturing 30% more images; and operating time of up to 30 minutes. All of this is included within the same dimensions as the original PillCam ESO. PillCam ESO 2 will be supported by the PillCam platform with RAPID 5 software.
