When victims of the Boston Marathon bombings arrived at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Carestream DR technology came to the rescue. “Seconds count when you have 24 patients who have lost limbs or have severe shrapnel injuries,” said Elisabeth A. Grady, general diagnostic manager of the Beth Israel radiology department. “We used 4 portable imaging systems to image patients. Thanks to rapid image capture and wireless transmission, physicians and radiologists immediately were able to identify the most urgent cases and quickly prepare them for surgery. Being able to swiftly and accurately assess injuries saved lives and enabled us to deliver the best outcome for all patients.”

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, had installed an array of Carestream digital radiography (DR) products during the hospital’s transition from CR to DR. The 649-bed facility now has 3 DRX-Revolution mobile x-ray systems, 2 DRX-Evolution DR rooms and 2 DRX-Mobile retrofit kits to support its emergency room, operating room, and intensive care units.
