contract_sign - usedZONARE, Mountain View, Calif, has named Timothy Proulx vice president of engineering. Holding extensive medical imaging and device experience, Proulx will oversee both the software and hardware engineering teams for the company.

“We are pleased to have Tim join ZONARE,” said Glen McLaughlin, founder and president of ZONARE. “With more than 25 years of experience, Tim will lead our efforts to expand our next generation ZONE Sonography Technology (ZST) as we seek to provide clinicians with state-of-the-art ultrasound imaging capabilities. We look forward to the company’s ongoing technology evolution under his guidance.”

An approach to echo data acquisition and image formation, ZST uses a small number of large “zones” to acquire ultrasound data significantly faster than conventional ultrasound and extract more information on each transmit receive cycle. Since the speed of sound traveling through tissue is a physical constant, ZST has a significantly faster acoustic acquisition time, enabling superior imaging quality.

Prior to joining ZONARE, Proulx held a similar position at Sonitus Medical Systems and EarLens Corporation. He has had numerous senior level engineering responsibilities at Cabochon Aesthetics, BC Tech and Acuson/Siemens Medical. Proulx holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical and electrical engineering from Duke University and an master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He also has five patents issued within the medical imaging and device field.

“I believe ZONARE is generating the pathway to a new diagnostic standard of choice,” Proulx said.
