tech_computer_phone - usedHoping to achieve more efficient cancer care, Sectra has announced a digital solution that is set to enhance collaboration between pathologists and radiologists.

Specifically, the new release will allow for storing, viewing, and sharing of digital pathology images. It will enable pathologists to review cases digitally on a computer screen, thereby replacing the microscope. According to the company, the digital format will bring new tools to pathologists, allowing samples to be sent easily to other pathologists. Sharing workloads and enabling specialist consultations seek to facilitate quicker and more accurate diagnosis.

“Many pathology departments stand on the threshold of adopting digital pathology to benefit from major health and financial gains and quality improvements throughout the cancer care chain,” said Marie Ekström, president of Sectra Imaging IT Solutions and executive vice president of Sectra AB. “With 20 years’ experience in the medical IT field and having been a pioneer in the digitization of radiology, Sectra can help pathology departments fully utilize the benefits of digitization.”

In the United States, digital pathology for primary diagnosis is still pending approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
