The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) has appointed a new policy director to oversee the organization’s activities regarding coverage and reimbursement issues. Peter Weems, formerly an associate with van der Walde & Co, will lead MITA’s efforts to engage and educate regulators about medical imaging and the need for patient access to these technologies.
“MITA is committed to educating policymakers and regulators about the role of medical imaging in improving health outcomes and reducing costs,” said Gail Rodriguez, executive director of MITA. “Peter’s extensive political and policy experience positions him well to represent the interests of our members in Washington, D.C. and beyond.”
At van der Walde & Co, Weems served in a research capacity, providing analysis to capital markets and private equity investors on federal health care payment policy. Prior to that position, he worked as a researcher for two lobbying firms in Washington, DC, focusing primarily on healthcare.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues at MITA to advocate for appropriate legislation, regulation and Medicare coverage decisions that encourage innovation and improve patients’ access to care,” said Weems. “It is an honor to join an organization that has fortified its leadership role in the imaging community through continuous engagement with policymakers, physicians, and patients.”
