As radiologists retool to be more relevant contributors in a changing healthcare system, we’re retooling, too.

MM headshotThe diagnostic imaging field is undergoing a seachange. With healthcare reform, coordinated care, electronic health records, and new payments models, never before has there been a greater need for radical change in the practice and profession of radiology.

As radiologists continue to look for ways to make themselves more valued members of the healthcare team, the editorial team at Axis Imaging News is looking for ways to help you do so. That’s why we’ve been making some changes of our own.

Our goal has always been to provide you with the latest information, industry news, and expert advice. But in 2014 we are focusing our content on the most pressing issues facing radiology today. Our objective is to deliver the kind of hard-working editorial content that can assist you in making the transition from a volume-based way of doing business to a value-based one.

To that end, we’ve made some significant changes in both our website and our print issues. In a July 2013 survey, readers of Axis Imaging News told us what they like about our brand as well as what they’d like to see more of in 2014, both online and in print. Meeting healthcare reform mandates and new practice models ranked among the biggest areas of interest and concern for our readers.

So in January, we launched five new content channels on imagingeconomics.com that encompass and address the most important issues you and your practice are up against today:

  • Technology Challenges
  • Quality & Value
  • Health Policy & Reimbursement
  • The Imaging Consumer
  • Modalities & Practice Management

In Technology Challenges, for example, you’ll find a plethora of articles and resources about how to successfully attest for Meaningful Use—a major concern for today’s practices and a direct result of healthcare reform. What’s more, never before has interacting with the patient been such a priority for radiologists. That’s where our Imaging Consumer channel can help you with everything from improving the patient experience to marketing direct-to-consumer.

You’ll find a greater amount of multimedia content online, too—with new forums and formats like reader surveys, videos, and podcasts. For example, check out three brand new audio/video series: “Quality Matters,” “The Hot Seat,” and our soon-to-debut women’s imaging show, “Girl Talk.”

Finally, our information-packed print issues of Axis Imaging News magazine are better than ever. Each issue is created around a dedicated theme that complements one of our online channels and addresses the obstacles and opportunities confronting today’s imaging leaders.

Case in point: The March-April edition of Axis Imaging News is our quality theme issue. You’ll find special content about improving quality in radiology throughout the issue. There are feature articles on building a successful radiation dose program; a strategic guide to PQRS in 2014; and, various perspectives about standardizing clinical decision support for ordering imaging tests. But there’s even more content about quality in the following pages. Don’t miss the results of our “Quality Matters” survey…and read up on how radiology reporting tools can make you a more valued resource to referring physicians.

Now is the time for radiologists to retool to meet new, unprecedented business challenges. Axis Imaging News is retooling, too, to help you stay relevant—and get revitalized—in this exciting, but very demanding time.
