The FDA has cleared Siemens Healthcare’s Artis one, an angiography system designed for broad clinical utilization and routine interventions, including pacemaker implantations, revascularizations of peripheral vessel occlusions, and diagnostic or minimally invasive angiographic treatment of narrowed coronary arteries.

The floor-mounted system occupies 269 feet, compared to the 484-square-feet footprint required by most ceiling-mounted systems. With several independently moving axes, the system can provide full coverage for patients up to 6 feet, 10 inches tall without requiring patient repositioning. The tableside console uses tactile buttons that can be manipulated under a sterile covering, while the 30-inch display provides images up to 90% larger than similar monitors.

Visualization features include the Clearstent Live application for interventional cardiology procedures (previously available on the Artis Q and Artis Q.zen systems), which allows physicians to mask out movement of the beating heart for improved stent placement. HeartSweep speeds procedures and reduces the need for multiple acquisitions by using dual-axis rotational angiography to image the heart in one C-arm movement. The system also uses 20% less enenergy than Siemens’ Artis zee floor system, reducing operational costs.
