Research presented at the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting suggests that referring physicians would prefer to send their patients to imaging facilities that adopt interactive, image-friendly reporting formats. During the session, “Traditional Text-Only vs. Multimedia Enhanced Radiology Reporting (MERR): Referring Physicians’ Perceptions of Value,” presenters indicated that referring physicians view Carestream’s latest version of its Vue Reporting module in the Vue PACS as an improvement over traditional, text-only radiology reports.

The latest Vue Reporting module enables radiologists to embed images and present quantitative data in the form of tables for vessel analysis or lesion management. Anatomical bookmarks also let users navigate to anatomical regions of interest. Using the Vue Motion enterprise viewer, referring physicians can access the images in one click directly from the report via interactive hyperlinks. The viewer also facilitates data sharing to let referring physicians access 3D/MPR images and non-DICOM data such as videos and photos uploaded from FDA-cleared mobile devices.

“Revolutionizing the radiology reporting process and raising the value of the radiology report are important goals for our company. These improvements provide powerful communication and sharing capabilities to our customers,” said Ludovic d’Aprea, Carestream’s general manager for Healthcare Information Solutions. “Enhancing the quality of diagnostic information provided to physicians and specialists can help optimize treatment decisions.”
