Managing the imaging side of a clinical trial can be difficult for everyone involved. Radiologists may have to read images on unfamiliar applications or even film. Trial administrators may have to spend an inordinate amount of time and precious trial dollars gathering and shipping films and other media for image submission.

Seeing the need for a more transparent and efficient way to manage the imaging side of clinical trials, Merge Healthcare recently launched its etrials CIMS solution, an open platform image management system.

The CIMS platform automates the full workflow of image submission, image storage in a vendor-neutral DICOM archive, and image analysis and viewers. According to the company, this allows radiology experts, sponsors, sites, and CROs to more efficiently and economically complete tasks associated with the trial’s imaging component. In addition, the etrials CIMS can fully integrate with any electronic data capture system to provide end-to-end visibility of all data.
