The deal brings Oxipit’s CE-marked autonomous chest X-ray analysis platform into Sectra’s diagnostic imaging portfolio.
International medical imaging IT company Sectra has completed its acquisition of Oxipit, a company specializing in autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) for radiology. According to a release from the company, the acquisition strengthens Sectra’s offerings in regulatory-approved AI solutions and incorporates the first platform with CE Class IIB certification for autonomous chest X-ray analysis.
With the deal finalized, Sectra now owns and will further develop ChestLink, Oxipit’s flagship product. The platform is designed to automatically identify and clear high-confidence normal chest X-rays from the worklist, allowing radiologists to focus on cases with a higher probability of disease. Unlike conventional AI decision-support tools that flag findings for radiologist review, the company states that autonomous AI is validated to independently complete a defined diagnostic task.
“With the acquisition of Oxipit, we’re adding a new dimension to our AI offering: autonomous AI that can genuinely reduce radiologists’ workload in daily clinical practice. Equally important, we’re acquiring the clinical validation and regulatory expertise required to deploy this category of AI responsibly at scale,” says Torbjörn Kronander, president and CEO of Sectra, in a release. “The acquisition complements our vendor-neutral AI marketplace, which remains a cornerstone of our strategy, and our own rapid innovation … Together, these moves demonstrate clear leadership in AI for diagnostic imaging and position us to help healthcare providers manage rising imaging volumes and address staff burnout.”
The ChestLink product holds CE Class IIb certification, reflecting the safety and regulatory standards required for this category of AI.
