Washington, D.C. – The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) – the leading trade association representing manufacturers of medical imaging equipment, radiopharmaceuticals, contrast media, and focused ultrasound therapeutic devices – has awarded U.S. Representative Bobby L. Rush (IL-01) with the MITA Innovation Award in recognition of his leadership on legislation to significantly expand patient access to advanced nuclear diagnostic imaging technologies and promote innovation in nuclear diagnostic imaging.

“As a champion for The Facilitating Innovative Nuclear Diagnostics (FIND) Act, Congressman Rush has demonstrated his commitment to improving access to innovations in healthcare for all Americans, not only the wealthiest patients and hospital systems,” said Patrick Hope, Executive Director of MITA. “His continued dedication to passing this legislation is a testament to his well-deserved legacy in Congress as an advocate for equality and equity.”

“I am honored to be recognized by MITA as an advocate for expanded access to medical innovations. The current payment structure for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals makes it nearly impossible for many hospitals serving underserved communities to provide these more efficient tests. This lack of access further exacerbates disparities in early detection of diseases like Alzheimer’s and breast and prostate cancers. The FIND Act is one way Congress can help to address our current two-tiered health system and improve health care for all Medicare beneficiaries,” said Rep. Rush.

The MITA Innovation Award recognizes Members of Congress who have demonstrated outstanding and ongoing efforts to promote innovation within the medical technology industry to improve patient care.
