Wake Radiology has extended its partnership with Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure, marking the eighth year the North Carolina imaging provider has been a sponsor of the Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast affiliate. The provider will support educational and outreach efforts at the organization’s 18th annual Triangle Race for the Cure, to be held on Saturday, June 14 at Meredith College.

Wake Radiology will have a tent available at the race for women to make a mammogram appointment and learn about the importance of conducting monthly self exams. In addition, the facility will serve as the event’s official transportation sponsor and enter a team of employees and family members to participate in the race. Wake Radiology recently invested in 3D mammography, a technology that can improve breast cancer detection rates by up to 50%.

“Wake Radiology shares Susan G. Komen’s goal of ending breast cancer and we’re proud to support the important work they do in our community to provide education and screenings,” said Danielle Wellman, MD, codirector of breast imaging services for Wake Radiology. “It’s important for women to understand the value of early diagnosis and treatment. Getting of annual mammograms and performing monthly self exams can help detect breast cancer early, when chances of survival are highest.

The 2013 Race for the Cure raised more than $1.1 million to provide education, screenings, and treatment for uninsured or underinsured women and support national research initiatives. “We all know that early detection saves lives and our community is so lucky to have Wake Radiology as a vital resource. Their support of our Triangle Race for the Cure helps provide mammograms and education to hundreds of women in our 29 counties,” said Pam Kohl, executive director of the Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast affiliate.
