The US government has awarded McKesson Provider Technologies its DIN PACS III (Digital Imaging Network/Picture Archiving and Communications System) contract, allowing the company to sell PACS and related sub-systems to all branches of the US armed forces and civilian defense department agency facilities. The deal is valued at a potential $30 million through the contract term, which initially runs for two years with an additional two years of options.

This agreement follows a string of military contracts that McKesson has secured during the last year. Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, Calif, and Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas were the first of five bases to replace their hospital’s PACS systems with McKesson’s solution. Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC, Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM, and McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan, are currently deploying McKesson’s PACS and expect to go-live by February 2012.
