It wasn’t the luck of the Irish, but an extensive evaluation process that finally awarded Carestream Health, Rochester, NY, a contract to install its RIS/PACS solution at Dublin’s Mater Private Hospital in the Republic of Ireland.

The Mater Private Hospital is a leading Irish hospital that performs over 70,000 studies a year and provides patients with the latest in imaging diagnostic technology, including x-ray, digital mammography, CT, MRI, PET/CT, nuclear medicine, fluoroscopy and vascular imaging.

In addition to installing its RIS/PACS system in 2010, Carestream will also be retrofitting Mater’s existing X-ray suites with Carestream DRX, and a Directview Elite CR system with mammography. The latter allows mammography exams to be performed using the same platform as general radiography and long length imaging.

Paddy Gilligan, principal physicist at the Mater Private Hospital, said that the hospital partially based its decision on its visits to other Ireland-based Carestream customers that have installed Carestream’s products.

Commenting in the press release, Gilligan said, “The reason we chose Carestream Health was that the integration, usability, advanced 3D and image processing facilities, especially for PET/CT, will support our wide range of disciplines. The RIS was very intuitive and matched our workflows. Overall, the product best suited the detailed requirements laid out in our Request for Procurement.”
