The Clinical Information System (CIS) market may be ripe with opportunity for new vendors, a recent KLAS study suggests. Community Hospital CIS Market Share 2013: Moving Forward without Leaders found that many providers identified their top priorities as integration with existing systems and affordable price tag. Factors like functionality, usability, and service came second, potentially opening the door to competitors able to address those requirements.

“Providers are weighing their options and making some sacrifices,” said Paul Pitcher, KLAS research director and the report’s author. “The fact that providers are focusing more on integration and pricing is creating opportunities for vendors who may be more suited to fulfilling those providers’ needs.”

Providers participating in the study included Allscripts, Cerner, CPSI, Epic, Healthland, HMS, McKesson, MEDITECH, Prognosis, and Siemens. The full report is available for purchase at deep discount to providers on the KLAS website. They can also receive a complimentary copy by completing a survey about one of their current vendors.
