Samsung_WS80A with 5D Heart Image 400Samsung Electronics America has launched a premium ultrasound system offering advanced 5D features, including a new fetal heart application, for women’s health. The Samsung WS80A with Elite performance package improves overall image clarity and helps streamline workflow.

“The launch of Samsung’s flagship ultrasound product for the women’s health market emphasizes Samsung is ready for the next big thing in ultrasound,” said Doug Ryan, group vice president for health and medical equipment at Samsung Electronics America.

The system builds on Samsung’s existing WS80A platform with new features that address some of the key challenges in women’s health, such as screening and diagnosing fetal congenital heart disease. The 5D heart tool generates nine standard fetal cardiac views to simplify examination of the fetal heart and improve reproducibility.

“Utilizing Fetal Intelligent Navigation Echocardiography (FINE) 5D Heart can help improve the performance of fetal echocardiography by shortening the examination time, providing the nine standard cardiac planes which are necessary to examine the fetal heart thoroughly,” said Lami Yeo, MD, associate professor and director of fetal cardiology at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University’s School of Medicine in Detroit.

The updated system offers the same 5D features introduced on the Samsung WS80A, such as 5D LB (fetal long-bone) and 5D NT (nuchal translucency). Additional features now include 5D CNS (Central Nervous System), which displays six measurements (BPD, HC, OFD, Cerebellum, Posterior Fossa, Atria lateral ventricle) from three transverse views generated from a single volume of the fetal brain, and 5D Follicle, which identifies and measures multiple ovarian follicles for rapid assessment of follicular size and status during gynecology examinations. The system also includes S-Vue transducer technology and a 23-inch LED screen to enhance image viewing.
