Viztek has announced that OrthoCarolina, an independent orthopedics practice with more than 250 providers and 33 locations serving North Carolina and the Southeast, has chosen the company’s U-Arm and Leggera Wireless DR system. The practice assists over 30 sports teams and 50 community organizations, and had nearly one million patient encounters in 2013.

“Improving patient care is always a top priority, but being able to pursue that objective and gain significant collateral benefits for the practice in the process is no small accomplishment,” said John Alexander, radiology systems administrator for OrthoCarolina. “By working with Viztek, we are not only reducing patient radiation dose, but also improving the overall productivity from our radiology department thanks to higher quality images and accelerated processing times.”

The DR platform supports technologists in locations where overhead tube installation is unfeasible. The system also enables automated positioning, reducing the risk of workplace injuries. The Leggera U-Arm is expected to reduce the need for repeat radiographs and reduce patients’ radiation exposure.

“Today’s healthcare organizations find themselves so strapped for resources that the investment required to improve patient care can appear as a luxury. But OrthoCarolina illustrates that pursuing the greater good for patients can yield significant benefits for organizations in the end,” said Bruce Ashby, General Manager of DR for Viztek.
