The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) has announced Mary Rodriguez will take over as the association’s chief operating officer (COO), effective January 1, 2014. Rodriguez is a 14-year veteran of SDMS who currently serves as the association’s director of accounting, human resources, and membership services.

Incoming chief executive officer (CEO) Donald Kerns replaces retiring CEO Donald Haydon and also assumed his position on January 1. Kerns appointed Rodriguez, saying, “I asked Mary to serve as COO because of her demonstrated commitment to the SDMS and its members. She has enthusiastically taken on every task and challenge presented to her during her 14 years at SDMS, so I am very pleased to have her serve in this key role in the SDMS’s new management team.”

Rodriguez has held many positions within SDMS since joining the society in 1999. Her new role will include overseeing the society’s daily operations as well as administration of its policies and business goals. “She is deeply respected by the board and volunteer leadership as a consummate association professional,” said Katie Kuntz, president of the SDMS board. “Over the last 14 years the association has grown its membership by almost 200%, and she was one of the key staff members that was integral to that phenomenal growth.”

Rodriguez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Western Governor’s University and is currently working toward her master’s degree there. She also holds a Certified Association Executive credential.
