Netherlands-based Nucletron today announced a partnership with the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) and Texas Cancer Clinic to sponsor the HDR Fellowship Experience, a clinical and didactic training program for residents.

Participants will examine the many uses of HDR brachytherapy, which the parties hope will encourage further training and skill development for future clinical practice.

Conducted at the Texas Cancer Clinic, a freestanding, multidisciplinary outpatient cancer center located in San Antonio, the program offers one-on-one time with clinicians and physicists and observation of at least one HDR procedure involving the prostate, breast, gynecological organs. The participants will be involved in the planning phase as well as learn how to critique the plan. Additionally, Nucletron will provide a formal didactic and hands-on training course.

The program has received 51 applications from residents and junior staff members for the 10 openings available in 2008.
