The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) recently announced that Megan Hayes has joined the organization as Regulatory and Standards Director.

“MITA is committed to improving patient safety and increasing efficiencies in the delivery of care through medical imaging standards,” said Gail Rodriguez, executive director of MITA. “Megan’s extensive experience with standards strategy and implementation will be a tremendous asset to MITA as we work with our imaging community partners to build upon an already robust set of safety standards.”

Hayes’ duties in her new role include identifying opportunities for performance, quality and safety standards. She also will seek to promote current standards among stakeholders, including regulators, industry and standards development organizations. Working with international regulatory bodies, such as the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF), Hayes will promote the adoption of imaging standards.

“I am pleased to be joining an organization that plays such an integral role in the development and integration of regulations and standards, and look forward to working with MITA and our industry partners on future efforts to enhance patient safety and optimize medical device performance,” said Hayes.

Previously, Hayes developed technical standards at MITA’s parent organization, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). She also headed the development of technical standards for the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions and the Consumer Electronics Association.

Hayes earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from American University in Washington, DC.
