Baptist Health has eliminated 85% of its CD archive by storing and sharing medical images in real-time through Accelarad’s secure cloud platform. The Alabama health care provider and one of only five Level II trauma facilities in the state, Baptist Health has been an Accelarad customer since March 2013.

Accelarad’s platform allows physicians and patients to access medical images in real-time from any Internet-connected computer or mobile device – similar to images uploaded to a social network. Prior to implementing Accelarad, Baptist Health manually stored and shared medical images on CD’s. These CDs were often physically transported from referring hospitals hundreds of miles away.  Up to 30% of these CDs contained bad files, forcing patients to be rescanned.

As other central Alabama health care facilities and physicians learned of Baptist Health’s partnership with Accelarad, they quickly began requesting access to the image-sharing platform.  Today, Baptist Health is connected with 15 other regional providers, including Children’s Hospital of Alabama, Jackson Hospital and Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Now these hospitals and physicians can instantly access medical images to facilitate trauma transfers, specialty consults and patient image requests.
