Language Access Network, a healthcare communications provider, has partnered with Raleigh Radiology to provide Video Remote Interpreting services. The program will improve communication with non-native English speakers, deaf, and hard-of-hearing patients to enhance the quality of healthcare delivered to these patients.

The services rely on Marrti (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter), a device that connects doctors and patients with medically trained interpreters 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Resembling a computer tablet, the device uses a touch screen and broadband network to provide instant access to live LAN interpreters of more than 210 languages located in call centers throughout the United States. The units are wireless and lightweight, and suitable for handheld use. They can also be attached to a medical cart and wheeled throughout a facility.

“Raleigh Radiology did not believe video remote interpretation services could be affordable for a non-acute care facility like theirs with a low patient census. However, LAN established an affordable package to meet their needs and create enhanced patient and provider satisfaction with a more efficient system of care,” said Andrew Panos, LAN’s founder and COO. “Timely, cost-effective and easy to use video remote interpretation services improve compliance, decrease unnecessary tests, and help achieve better clinical outcomes.”
