Radiologists at Emory University Hospital have developed a protocol for obtaining chest radiographs that could significantly improve physicians’ ability to rapidly diagnose patients suspected of having Ebola. Using portable computed radiography, the protocol limits exposure of medical personnel and equipment to infectious bodily fluids and employs thorough decontamination procedures to minimize the risk of contaminants escaping the isolation unit.

The process is described in an article published ahead of print in the American Journal of Roentgenology.
