St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit has become the first US facility to install the Artis one angiography system from Siemens Healthcare. The system supports a range of angiography procedures, including diagnosing and treating coronary artery disease and peripheral vessel occlusions and performing electrophysiology procedures. At St. John, the system will be used mostly for interventional cardiology and electrophysiology.

“The compact nature of the Artis one angiography system makes it easy to work with,” said Lingareddy Devireddy, medical director of cardiology services and chief of cardiology at St. John Providence Health System, Warren, Mich. “The footprint of the base and its movement make it easy for left-sided implants, and the system’s peristepping function is convenient for peripheral work.”

Smaller than many ceiling-mounted systems, the Artis one has a footprint of 269 square feet, along with multiple axes that can move independently of each other to facilitate easy positioning. The system accommodates patients up to 6 feet, 10 inches tall without requiring repositioning.  Previously only available on Siemens’ Artis Q and Artis Q.zen systems, the Clearstent Live application for interventional cardiology procedures masks out motion of the beating heart and enables correct stent placement. The HeartSweep cardiac imaging tool uses dual-axis rotational angiography to image the entire heart with one C-arm movement, potentially speeding procedures and saving contrast agents. The system also uses 20% less energy for reduced operational costs.
