Recently introduced into the United States House of Representatives was the Assure Access to Mammography Act of 2008, which would increase the minimum fee on mammography services.

Filed by Rep. Anthony D. Weiner, D-N.Y., the legislation would create a reimbursement floor for mammography services in 2009 that amount to at least 115% of the 2008 fee schedule.

Under the bill, which does not have any cosponsors to date, fees are subject to geographic area adjustment in the same manner as for other physicians’ services that are covered under the same Medicare fee schedule section.

The next stops for the legislation are the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Committee on Ways and Means.
