New Products for the Imaging Industry
GE Discovery IGS 730 from GE Healthcare
The GE Discovery IGS 730 is a new laser guided system that has been designed to capture the advantages of both floor- and ceiling-mounted systems, without the limitations of either. The Discovery IGS 730 uses the same digital flat-panel detector technology as GE Innova interventional imaging systems. However, instead of being fixed in position, the imaging device is on a mobile gantry that moves along user defined pathways, guided by laser. At the touch of a button, clinicians can move the system to the table for imaging various anatomies, and then move it aside and park it, allowing room to position physicians, nurses, technologists, anesthesiologists, and other personnel optimally for surgery, with unobstructed access to the patient.

MAGNETOM Spectra 3 Tesla MRI from Siemens
Siemens Healthcare announced that the MAGNETOM Spectra 3 Tesla MRI system received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration. Designed for easy and efficient operation, the cost-optimized MAGNETOM Spectra system is innovative and competitive—two primary goals of the Healthcare Sector’s Agenda 2013 2-year global initiative. The MAGNETOM Spectra system employs Tim (Total imaging matrix) 4G technology, Siemens’ latest coil generation. This array structure allows for high spatial and temporal resolution, which, along with a high-quality signal-to-noise ratio, enables Tim 4G to deliver outstanding image quality. Until now, images of similar quality could be produced only by high-end 3T systems, which require a higher investment.

Flexible Coil System from Toshiba
Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc, Tustin, Calif, has received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its high-density 16-element flexible coil system, developed in partnership with NeoCoil. The new coil system makes it easier for clinicians to complete high-quality exams and improve diagnostic efficiency. Available for the Vantage Titan 1.5T, the 16-element flexible coils conform more closely to the anatomy, greatly improving the signal-to-noise ratio. Where standard coils are not optimal, the flexible coils can be used for general-purpose as well as head, neck, and spine imaging. Large patients are not forced into or pinched by the hard plastic of traditional rigid coils.
