In recent months radiation dose safety has become one of the leading topics of debate and concern in the radiological world. And for good reason. Several high-profile cases have brought the problem of radiation overdosing to the national stage.

To address this challenge  and offer solutions, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) will be hosting “Safety in Radiation Therapy—A Call to Action” at the Hyatt Regency Miami from June 24 to 25. The conference has been endorsed by the American College of Radiology.

The conference is aimed at everyone in the healthcare enterprise, including clinicians, manufacturers, and regulators. Primary topics will cover examining the current treatment process to identify and implement safety improvements; identifying methods to provide operators with greater knowledge and control over the radiation delivery process; reviewing radiation team member responsibilities to improve communication, teamwork, and safety.

Registration is capped at 325, so registering early is advised. Full details about the conference are available at www.aapm.org/meetings/2010SRT.
