St. Mary’s Health Care System in Georgia has installed two Vantage Titan 1.5T MR systems from Toshiba America Medical Systems for use in its cardiac imaging program and for advanced imaging studies that include myocardial perfusion and stress MR. St.  Mary’s is also an official provider for the University of Georgia Athletic Association, and will use the systems for musculoskeletal and body imaging of injured athletes.

“In order to build a state-of-the-art cardiac imaging program, cardiac MRI capability is crucial, and Toshiba’s Titan 1.5T MR systems exceeded our expectations with image quality,” said Erick Avelar, MD, medical director of cardiac MRI and CT, Oconee Heart & Vascular Center, St. Mary’s Health Care System, who started the cardiac MRI program in Athens, Ga. “Additionally, no matter the clinician skill level, exam times and operator errors have reduced significantly with Toshiba’s CardioLine.”

The Vantage Titan 1.5T MR includes a 71-cm bore and feet-first imaging to reduce patient claustrophobia, as well as proprietary Pianissimo noise-reduction technology. The CardioLine positioning alignment tool also automatically detects anatomical landmarks to ensure complete alignment of six standard cardiac views without any operator interaction.

“Toshiba’s Titan 1.5T MR systems have allowed us to push the needle forward by improving our cardiac services so that nearby cardiology groups can feel confident in referring their patients to St. Mary’s,” said Jeff Brown, director of radiology and cardiovascular services at St. Mary’s.
