The AI-based software supports all FDA-approved PET radiotracers and is designed to enhance image quality from accelerated low-count acquisitions, with scan times reduced by up to 75%.
Subtle Medical announced US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance of SubtleHD(PET), an AI-based PET image enhancement software designed for use with PET/CT and PET/MR systems.
PET imaging continues to expand as new tracers and theranostic workflows emerge. Citing industry reports, Subtle Medical noted that 67% of PET imaging sites expect procedure volumes to increase over the next 12 months. As PET volumes grow, imaging providers face ongoing challenges related to scanner capacity and exam throughput.
According to the company, the software supports all FDA-approved PET radiotracers and is intended to improve image quality from accelerated low-count PET acquisitions. Subtle Medical says the software can support PET imaging workflows with scan times reduced by up to 75% on existing scanners.
SubtleHD(PET) expands on the company’s previously cleared SubtlePET platform and includes compatibility with radiotracers beyond fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG), including newer molecular imaging agents used in oncology and theranostics applications.
According to Subtle Medical, the software provides enhanced image quality, improved SUVmax quantitation accuracy, and compatibility across all FDA-approved PET radiotracers.
SubtleHD(PET) was validated across a range of accelerated low-count PET acquisitions and allows users to adjust denoising levels based on radiologist preference. The software also incorporates anatomical CT data to support PET image reconstruction quality and quantitative consistency.
“PET imaging demand continues to grow globally, but providers remain constrained by scanner capacity and long scan times,” says Ajit Shankaranarayanan, PhD, chief product officer at Subtle Medical, in a release.
Subtle Medical noted that shorter PET exams may benefit patients who have difficulty remaining still for longer imaging studies, including oncology, pediatric, elderly, and critically ill populations.
SubtleHD(PET) joins the company’s portfolio of AI-based imaging software for PET, MRI, and CT applications.
